MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

Mizzi has an expansive professional history with a career that demonstrates a wealth of expertise, particularly in the realms of marketing, communications and events management.

Over the years, Mizzi has climbed his way up the corporate ladder, culminating in him taking on the position of CEO for the Residency Malta Agency at the start of 2019. This was a high-profile role, where Mizzi led the government agency responsible for managing the Malta Permanent Residence Programme.

Now, nearly five years later, Mizzi has been appointed as the new CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority, where he takes over from Carl Brincat on 26 January 2024.

The Malta Gaming Authority is the official regulator of gaming in Malta, ensuring that licensed gaming operations are fair and transparent. This high-profile position is a natural step for Mizzi, who brings his experience leading a government agency to the Malta Gaming Authority.

EMPLOYMENT

The first significant phase of Mizzi’s professional career began in 1997 when he joined the Bank of Valletta as their Senior Marketing Director. Mizzi held this role for more than ten years before moving on in October 2007.

Shortly after, Mizzi took on the role of Head of Image & Communications at BNF Bank. Mizzi held this position for just shy of seven years between November 2007 and September 2014.

Next, Mizzi worked as a Communications Coordinator or Media Operations Coordinator for a range of large-scale events. These events included the 2015 Valletta Summit on Migration, Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2015 and the Malta Summit 2017.

Not long after, Mizzi took on the position of Executive Director of Media and Marketing for the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the EU. He held this role for three years between October 2014 and September 2017.

Towards end of this time, Mizzi also undertook a four-month stint as the Head of Task Force for the Our Oceans Conference, a role that came to a close in October 2017.

Next, Mizzi was appointed as the Chief Officer of Communications and Business Development for the Individual Investor Programme of the Republic of Malta. Mizzi held this role for a year and a half before leaving in January 2019.

Finally, in February 2019, Mizzi took on the position of CEO for the Residency Malta Agency. Here, Mizzi led the government agency responsible for managing residency programmes for non-EU nationals. These programmes are the Malta Permanent Residence Programme, the Nomad Residence Permit and the Malta Startup Residence Programme, offering business opportunities and temporary or permanent residency.

In late 2023, it was announced that Mizzi had been appointed as the new CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), where he will be taking over from former CEO, Carl Brincat, on 26 January 2024. Mizzi is set to be shadowing Brincat throughout January to ensure a smooth transition into his position at the MGA’s helm.

“I am honoured to have been given the opportunity to lead the authority. I am keen to build on past successes and, together with the team under the guidance of the minister responsible and the board of governors, to strategically steer the authority forward so that Malta’s already robust position in the field may be further strengthened while delivering value to all stakeholders.” Charles Mizzi
