With over 30 years of experience in gaming and entertainment, Scott Butera is a distinguished member of the industry. Having previously served in a variety of leadership positions for a range of top companies, it was announced in April 2024 that Butera had been appointed as the President and CEO of Affinity Interactive.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

Butera is a business veteran with a résumé that has seen him holding leadership positions for a range of top companies – many of which are Fortune 500 corporations.  

Throughout his time in the industry, Butera has held CEO and President positions for MGM Resorts International, Foxwoods Resort & Casino and Tropicana Entertainment – to name a few.  

Now, Butera is currently operating as the President and CEO of Affinity Interactive, as well as being the acting CEO of the Daily Racing Form for Sports Information Group. 

EMPLOYMENT

Butera began his career as an Investment Banker. Throughout his time in this role, he worked with companies such as UBS, Credit Suisse First Boston, Smith Barney and Bear Stearns & Co. In total, Butera worked as an Investment Banker for 11 years from 1992 to 2003.  

Following on from this, Butera was appointed as the President and COO of Trump Entertainment Resorts – a role that he held for two years from 2003 to 2005.  

His next move took him to Metroflag Management where he served as the President for two years from 2005 to 2007. 

Immediately after this, Butera was appointed as the COO of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. He held this role for one year before moving on in 2008. 

Next, Butera had a two-year stint as the President and CEO of Tropicana Entertainment from 2008 to 2010.  

Following this, Butera was appointed as both the President and CEO of Foxwoods Resort Casino. He held these positions for four years from 2010 to 2014. 

In 2015, Butera’s career saw a slight change of pace when he became the Commissioner of the AFL. He served as the AFL’s Commissioner for three years from 2015 to 2018. 

Returning to the world of gaming and resorts, Butera became the President of Interactive Gaming for MGM Resorts International in 2018. He held this role for two years before moving on in 2020. 

Next, Butera became the President of Fubo Gaming – a role that he held for just shy of three years from February 2020 to November 2022.  

After a short pause, Butera was then appointed as the CEO of Sports Information Group, Daily Racing Form in March 2023.  

Following on from Butera’s impressive performance in this role, he was appointed as the President and CEO of Affinity Interactive (Sports Information Group’s parent company) in April 2024. 

Regarding this appointment, Butera stated: “Affinity’s mission to elevate the gaming industry through advanced technology and unparalleled customer offerings – both across digital media platforms as well as in-person gaming – remains a driving force behind the business’ success. 

“I am eager to collaborate with Jim and leverage my familiarity with the business as well as my passion for driving innovative change to execute on Affinity Interactive’s long-term strategic priorities.”
