Anna Johnson is a fully authorised accountant, with a broad range of expertise in the realms of finance and accountancy. Her stint with the accounting and advisory organisation, Grant Thornton, lasted over two decades and saw her successfully take on a number of leadership roles before eventually becoming the company’s CEO in 2016. Johnson is bringing her skills to the gaming industry in June 2024 as the new CEO of Svenska Spel.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

With a strong background in finance and accountancy, Johnson has successfully worked her way up the ranks throughout the course of her career. This has culminated in her holding a variety of leadership roles including being appointed as the CEO of Grant Thornton, Sweden.

Johnson began as an Accountant’s assistant and over the course of more than 20 years worked her way up to CEO and Board member of the company.

Off the back of her 22-year stint at Grant Thornton, Sweden, it was announced in December 2023 that Johnson was to be appointed as the new CEO of Svenska Spel.

Johnson was featured on Dagen Industri’s list of the 125 Most Powerful Women in Business, an accolade she has now achieved twice from the Swedish financial newspaper.

EMPLOYMENT

Johnson began her professional career in 1998 when she joined Grant Thornton as an Accountant's Assistant, a role that she held for three years in Stockholm, Sweden.

Next, Johnson took on the position of Finance manager for Contento AB, a banking, finance and insurance educational company. She undertook this role for one year from 2001 to 2002.

Shortly after, Johnson returned to Grant Thornton where she once again occupied the position of Accountant’s assistant. She worked in this role for a further three years, this time from 2002 to 2005. 

Following this, Johnson went on to become a chartered accountant. In light of this, in 2005, Johnson began working for Grant Thornton as an Accountant and would continue to climb the ladder.

In January of 2014, Johnson moved up the ranks again and she was appointed the position of Partner. She held this role for more than two and a half years between 2014 and 2016.

Having worked her way up through the company, Johnson was eventually appointed as the new CEO of Grant Thornton in September 2016.

At the same time that she became CEO, Johnson also became a Board Member for Grant Thornton. She has held both of these positions for more than seven years and continues to serve in these roles for the company today.

In addition to this, Johnson also became a Board Member for FAR, a trade association for accountants, accounting consultants, tax advisers, salary consultants and specialists. She undertook this position alongside her duties to Grant Thornton in September 2019.

Finally, in December 2023, it was announced that Johnson was to become the new CEO of the gaming company Svenska Spel, a role that she will be undertaking in the coming year.
