David Tsai is the CEO of Crown Resorts, a leader in the gaming and hospitality industry. Appointed in September 2024, Tsai brings nearly two decades of experience in managing integrated casino resorts across six jurisdictions. His expertise lies in corporate strategy, operations and financial performance, having delivered significant improvements through strategic planning and operational management.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS

David Tsai’s career is distinguished by his ability to transform organisations and drive growth. One of his notable achievements was leading MGM Grand Detroit and MGM Northfield Park to record-breaking EBITDA and market share, establishing a dominant position in online sports betting and iGaming. At Crown Perth, Tsai spearheaded key transformation initiatives that significantly enhanced operational efficiency and guest service excellence. 

EMPLOYMENT

David Tsai began his professional journey at McKinsey & Company as a Business Analyst in 2001, where he gained foundational experience in strategic consulting.   

He then joined Capital One in 2003 as a Senior Strategy Consultant, focusing on the development and execution of corporate strategies.   

In 2006, Tsai transitioned to The Venetian Resort Las Vegas as part of the Casino Marketing team, where he honed his expertise in guest acquisition and loyalty programs.   

In 2007, Tsai took on the role of Manager of Finance & Strategy at CityCenter Las Vegas, a $9bn mixed-use development. Over the next three years, he advanced to Executive Director of Strategy & Development, playing a pivotal role in the strategic and financial oversight of the project.   

In 2010, he joined ARIA Resort & Casino as VP of Strategic Development, leading strategic initiatives for the 4,000-room AAA Five-Diamond luxury casino resort.   

In 2012, Tsai became Corporate VP of Strategic Operations at MGM Resorts International, where he developed and executed company-wide strategic initiatives across 15 casino resorts. He was later promoted to SVP of Corporate Strategy & Analytics in 2014, establishing new corporate Centers of Excellence.   

He then served as SVP & SFO at Monte Carlo Resort & Casino from 2014 to 2018, overseeing a $550m transformation into Park MGM and NoMad Las Vegas, including concept design, project management and the development of new guest service standards.   

In 2018, Tsai was appointed President & COO at Gold Strike Casino Resort, where he led the property to its highest revenue and EBITDA in its 25-year history.   

In 2020, he was named President of the Midwest Group at MGM Resorts International, overseeing MGM Grand Detroit and MGM Northfield Park, where he achieved a dominant market share in online gaming and launched Michigan’s first sportsbook.   

Tsai joined Crown Resorts in December 2022 as CEO of Crown Perth, leading the transformation of the property with a focus on operational efficiency and guest service excellence. His success in this role led to his appointment as President & Group COO in August 2024, overseeing operations across Melbourne, Perth and Sydney with a combined revenue of AU$3 billion.   

In September 2024, Tsai was appointed Acting CEO and subsequently CEO of Crown Resorts. In his current role, he is leading the company’s transformation and growth, focusing on delivering world-class guest experiences and expanding the company’s market presence.
