MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
In 2022 the ANB worked with Gambling Alert, a group focused on the ills of gambling addiction, to run a campaign that involved going to schools and talking about problem gambling.
The ANB-PAC is a campaign that was created for smarter and better regulation of the sports betting industry across Nigeria. It aims to fund association reforms to achieve a clear, simple and coherent regulatory framework for the sports betting, lottery and gaming industry in Nigeria.
AWARDS
Akingba acted as a voice for Nigerian operators and sports betting investors in the face of governmental pressure throughout 2022, which is why the Global Gaming Awards shortlisted her for the Executive of the Year 2023 category.
EMPLOYMENT
Akingba has been working with the Association of Nigerian Bookmakers (ANB) as its Executive Secretary since January 2020.
Prior to that, she worked as the Legal and Compliance Manager at Alvac for eight months. She spent another five months as a Senior Associate for WYS Solicitors and three years and five months as the Legal and Compliance Manager of Winners Bookmakers Nigeria.
Between April and October 2014, she served as a Legal Adviser for Afric-Nigeria Sports Affairs. This followed her time as an Associate at Brainfield Law Chambers, and as a Legal Intern at Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) and Co.
“I joined the gaming Industry in 2014. I was with 1960 Bet, which was the biggest operator at that time. Since then, I would say the sports betting industry has grown tremendously. At that time, we could count on our fingers the number of sports betting operators in Nigeria. Now, we have so many foreign companies in the country. It is a good one for us.” Olabimpe Akingba
