GKL and Naver Cloud enter new AI partnership

Grand Korea Leisure (GKL) has signed a joint research and business partnership agreement with Naver Cloud to advance the use of artificial intelligence across Korea’s tourism sector. The agreement, announced on 30 December, aims to strengthen public-private collaboration and support the development of sovereign AI technologies.

The partnership outlines four primary areas of cooperation: The joint development of AI services for tourism, technical support and consulting to encourage AI adoption, joint education programmes to enhance human-resource capabilities and the implementation of pilot projects designed to demonstrate social value.

As part of the agreement, GKL will provide an AI testing environment using its casino operations and accumulated data. This includes access to systems and conditions within its Seven Luck casinos, enabling practical verification of AI-based solutions. Naver Cloud will contribute by supplying cloud and AI technology expertise, along with commercialisation feasibility assessments and on-site verification capabilities.

The two organisations say the partnership is intended to help accelerate the digital transition of Korea’s tourism industry. It also aligns with national goals to develop domestic AI technologies and increase their application across major economic sectors.

GKL CEO Doo-hyun Yoon said the agreement represents an important step toward modernising the tourism landscape. He expressed hope that the initiative will “kick-start the AI transformation of the Korean tourism industry,” adding that GKL, as a public enterprise, will continue supporting the government’s AI policy initiatives.

He also noted the company’s ambition to evolve into a “world-class urban premium tourism platform” by integrating advanced technology, enhancing visitor experiences and contributing to broader industry competitiveness.

Both companies confirmed that joint pilot projects will begin soon, with further announcements expected as development milestones are reached.
