The European Gaming and Betting Association has released new survey results for the Belgian Gaming Commission that consisted of 1,000 participants aged 18-30.

Within the survey, the names of 10 legal and 10 illegal gambling sites were presented; the results showed that 93% of participants knew the name of at least one legal website and 44% knew the name of at least one illegal website.

Among the 10 most known gambling sites, six were legal and four were illegal, proving that the names of legal gaming sites are better known than illegal sites; however, there isn’t too much of a difference in percentages between the two.

The results come at a time when the Belgian Government has introduced advertising restrictions for licensed gambling companies.

Furthermore, the survey revealed that 53% of participants have gambled at least once in the last three years; of that percentage, 65% were men and 35% were women. Meanwhile, the majority of participants gambled one time a month or less; with 62% of people gambling playing once a month or less often and 13% who play daily.

The survey also showed that the vast majority of players use legal websites to gamble. In total, 90% of participants admitted to opting for legal sites, while one third admit to having already played on an illegal gaming website.

With regards to clarity between legal and illegal websites, only 36% of participants stated they could spot the difference.

However, with the Belgian Government restricting advertisements, 46% voted in favour of the restriction in advertisements; meanwhile, 42% of participants were in favour of a total ban on gambling advertising for games of chance.

It must be stressed, though, that the 1,000 sample size used for the survey is very small.
