Gaming company Svenska Spel has announced the appointment of Anna Johnson as its new President and CEO, effective no later than June 2024.
Johnson, currently a partner and CEO of Grant Thornton in Sweden, has held various leadership roles since 1998, with seven years as CEO at Grant Thornton.
Erik Strand, Chairman of the Board of Svenska Spel, said: “Anna Johnson has a successful leadership based on inclusion and building strong teams that create customer value which has resulted in profitable growth over the years. Her drive and curiosity are excellent qualities for the task of leading Svenska Spel. We have implemented significant changes in recent years and are today well equipped to offer sustainable gaming experiences that contribute to a better Sweden.”
In response to her appointment, Johnson said: “Svenska Spel is one of Sweden's strongest brands. The group has a unique position and opportunity to run sustainable gaming that contributes both to joy and excitement to the benefit of the Swedish people and Swedish sports.”
The transition period will see Erik Strand temporarily taking over as CEO after the current CEO, Patrik Hofbauer, assumes his new role as president and CEO of Telia Company on 1 February 2024.
This appointment follows Svenska Spel's recent partnership with Kambi Group, aiming to introduce an online and retail sportsbook by the latter half of 2024. Kambi's subsidiary, Shape Games, will provide the front-end technology for Svenska Spel's sportsbook.
Svenska Spel has collaborated with many companies including Wagr and Betsson Group in Canada to expand its gaming offerings. Additionally, initiatives with Playtech and IGT aim to increase poker offerings and leverage lottery technology within the Swedish gaming market.
