DraftKings to launch mobile sports betting in North Carolina on 11 March

DraftKings has revealed plans to introduce its online sportsbook in North Carolina on 11 March 2024.

This announcement follows collaborative efforts with local stakeholders and regulatory authorities aimed at responsibly integrating sports betting into the state’s entertainment landscape.

Earlier this year, DraftKings forged a written agreement with NASCAR, facilitating its entry into North Carolina’s online betting market. With the addition of North Carolina, DraftKings Sportsbook will extend its reach to 27 US states and Ontario, Canada.

North Carolina hosts numerous sporting events, including NASCAR races and professional teams from various leagues. DraftKings aims to offer eligible residents diverse betting options while ensuring responsible gambling practices.

The DraftKings online sportsbook platform will provide features such as same-game parlays, in-game betting and special odds boosts.

The platform will operate under regulatory oversight and include safeguards like deposit limits, access to responsible gaming resources and a feature called ‘My Stat Sheet’ to track users’ betting activity.

Matt Kalish, DraftKings North America President, said: “The Tar Heel State is home to a passionate fanbase and some of the most iconic college basketball programs of all time, making this an exciting time to introduce legalised online sports betting. We’re proud to be working alongside NASCAR as our market access partner and look forward to enhancing the fan experience across North Carolina with a fun, safe and seamless sports betting product.”

To mark the occasion, DraftKings, in collaboration with NASCAR, will host a ceremonial first bet on 11 March at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte. The event will feature former Carolina Panthers player Greg Olsen and other dignitaries.

In addition to the launch, DraftKings is raising awareness about problem gambling during Problem Gambling Awareness Month in March. The company collaborates with organisations like the National Council on Problem Gambling to promote responsible gaming practices and provide resources to customers.

DraftKings’ expansion into North Carolina follows its acquisition of Jackpocket, a digital lottery app and successful launches in Vermont and Ontario.
