Crown Resorts CEO Ciaran Carruthers is resigning from his current position after serving the group for two years.
Carruthers was appointed Group CEO of Crown Resorts in 2022, and had seen the operator through some of its most challenging days, including the rehabilitation of Crown’s three casino properties due to non-compliance with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism laws; and the 1,000 job cuts affecting most Melbourne and Perth employees.
According to Australian media, Carruthers will be leaving the group before the end of 2024. Carruthers had given no reason, only saying that “it was the appropriate time to step down.”
“I am very pleased to hand over a stronger, compliant and transformed business to its next leader. There is more work to do, but I am very proud of what we have achieved as a team,” he added.
David Tsai, newly appointed group COO, will be serving as Interim Chief Executive from 1 September, until a permanent replacement is appointed.
Crown Resorts Chairman John Borghetti, appointed in June, said: “Under Ciaran’s leadership, Crown has achieved critical milestones including a whole-of-business transformation and remediation program."
Aside from Carruthers, Casino Officer Justin Casey will also end his role on 31 August 2024, with plans to retire.
Carruthers was appointed in 2022, replacing former CEO Steve McCann, who now works for Star Entertainment. Carruthers' contribution included the introduction of Crown’s PlaySafe program to prevent problem gambling.
