During the first half of the financial year, the charity received a total of £10.6m ($14.6m). The money was given in the form of voluntary donations from the gambling industry and excludes regulatory settlements and additional donations.

Presently, GambleAware asks all those who make a profit from gambling in the UK to donate a minimum of 0.1% of their gross gambling yield (GGY) annually direct to the charity under guidance issued by the Gambling Commission.

The funds donated are planned to be used in activities that include services and programmes of work such as the National Gambling Treatment Service (which include the begambleaware.org website, National Gambling Helpline and other treatment services across Great Britain), the Gambling Education Hub (which is currently being expanded to England and Wales), the Annual Great Britain Treatment and Support Survey (and interactive maps, which are meant to show and report the demands for treatment and support across the country) and several national prevention and awareness campaigns (such as Bet Regret and the National Gambling Treatment Service campaign).

The charity says it has a robust, independent and accountable system of governance processes and procedures in place.

GambleAware is guided by a Board of Trustees that is completely independent of the gambling industry to ensure the gaming world has no influence over the charity’s commissioning decisions in working towards its mission for a society safe from gambling harms.
