The Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG) for the District of Columbia confirmed that FanDuel will launch in the jurisdiction.
This will be managed through a new sports wagering subcontract with Intralot.
Residents in Columbia, otherwise known as Washington DC, will be able to access the FanDuel mobile app, the website and retail sports betting platforms.
The FanDuel app will launch in Columbia sometime this spring and will be limited to residents and visitors within the jurisdiction.
Frank Suarez, OLG Executive Director, said: “FanDuel’s industry-leading offering will ensure that the District maximizes tax revenue under its existing contracts this year while delivering a best-in-class experience for 18+ residents.”
The initial $5m fee to launch the sports betting app in Columbia will be paid by Intralot, which will also provide additional funds to assume the OLG’s sports betting operating costs, as well as towards an initiative to increase revenue from sports betting.
The revenue from sports wagers contributes towards a general fund in the district, which funds several programmes.
As part of this, local and minority-owned businesses are expected to see the contributions made towards them as part of the Certified Business Enterprises (CBE) programme double in size.
The current retail kiosks from GambetDC will also be phased out and replaced with FanDuel-branded kiosks in time.
This announcement comes only a short period of time after FanDuel acquired BeyondPlay, which will work on product development for the operator.
