In a momentous occasion for gambling in the state, citizens can now place legal bets, and just in time for the start of the NFL season.
In April, Arizona lawmakers voted to allow up to 20 online sportsbooks in the state.
Half of the licences were earmarked for Native American gaming tribes, while the remaining 10 will be allocated to professional sports organisations.
The countdown to the launch of sports betting has been highly anticipated.
In August, the Arizona Department of Gaming announced the tribes that would receive event wagering operator licences.
“During the rulemaking process for event wagering, the Department made it a priority to gather as much public and stakeholder comment as possible, particularly on aspects such as license allocation,” said Ted Vogt, the Department of Gaming Director.
After a judge dismissed a motion by the Yavapai-Prescott Tribe to delay the launch, sports betting went live on 9 September.
To date, the regulator has announced eight of the remaining sports betting licences for teams and organisations which include the Cardinals, Phoenix Suns and TPC Scottsdale.
Daily fantasy sports is also well underway, having hit the market on 28 August.
Dr Laila Mintas, the CEO of PlayUp USA, said: “After months of build-up, we are excited that the launch of Arizona’s sports betting is now here and congratulate all those involved.
“There is significant opportunity in the Arizona market and PlayUp remains optimistic of receiving a licence within due course.
"Equally as industry leaders, we are excited that those in Arizona can now experience the excitement of daily fantasy sports first-hand and welcome the opportunity the launch our product in the near future.”
