More than 160 non-profit organisations dedicated to various causes and located throughout the US participated in Boyd’s latest Christmas charity drive, decorating wreaths and trees that were displayed at 22 of the company’s properties.
Customers were then invited to vote for their favourite charities online and in-person at participating properties, with more than 100,000 votes cast nationwide.
Among the properties involved were Delta Downs Racetrack, Hotel & Casino in Louisiana, Valley Forge Casino Resort in Pennsylvania and Main Street Station in downtown Las Vegas.
Boyd billed 2021’s competition as “a fun, friendly, and socially distanced holiday wreath decorating competition, wherein all participants receive a donation, and the top three winners at each property receive larger donations based on guests’ votes.”
Now in its 14th year, Wreaths and Trees of Hope reached several new highs in 2021, including for its total prize pool, the number of participating properties, as well as non-profit organisations, and the number of votes cast.
Its prize pool exceeded 2020’s — when Boyd broke its prior record — by $35,000 dollars, the number of participating properties rose by four and the number of participating non-profit organisations rose by 25. And since the competition began in 2007, Boyd has donated more than $1m to non-profit organisations across the US.
Headquartered in Las Vegas, Boyd Gaming Corporation is counted among the US’ major casino companies, operating 28 properties in 10 states.
However, as a predominantly land-based operator, Boyd was hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, but has rebounded in recent months. For the third quarter of 2021, it reported a 29% increase in revenue.
