Sports Illustrated, the media company which provides sports news, scores, image rights, insight and data, is expected to unveil its first resort later in 2022, and is rumoured to be located in the Dominican Republic.
The property will include a number of popular activities, such as swimming, snorkeling, golf, scuba diving and water sports. The company also announced plans for an interactive hotel and resort in Orlando, as well as other venues across the US.
Joseph Cellura, Chairman, ADMI, and Christopher Schroeder, CEO, Experiential Ventures Hospitality, commented: “The mission of Sports Illustrated Resorts is to provide a vibrant and interactive experience.
“People are looking for experiences that allow them to be more active and participatory, and Sports Illustrated Resorts will create the ultimate immersive experiences for guests through the various hospitality categories and destinations we plan to enter.”
The scope of the project also includes space for university campuses, beach clubs, adventure lodges and golf courses. All resorts will incorporate luxury dining facilities and live sports events.
Dan Dienst, Executive Vice Chairman, ABG, said: “We are excited to expand Sports Illustrated in such a thrilling and interactive way, engaging travellers, families and sports fans like never before.
“ADMI's vision for Sports Illustrated Resorts is to create a portfolio of immersive lifestyle properties that will become go-to destinations for individuals and families seeking active vacation experiences.”
The project is set to be officially unveiled at Sports Illustrated’s The Party – an annual event which coincides with the Super Bowl.
It is likely that these resorts will feature a space for guests to use the brand’s sports betting platform, Sports Illustrated Sportsbook. This platform, which first launched in 2021, has been developed in part with 888 holdings, as the gaming operator looks to expand its influence into the United States and North America.
Indeed, this resort has the potential to see Sports Illustrated’s sports betting offering gain a greater share of the market in the US, competing with other prominent operators.
