The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) has published prospective statistics related to last Sunday’s Big Game betting action.

Atlantic City Casinos and New Jersey horseracing tracks reported strong wagering activity on Super Bowl LVI, showing a 22.4% increase over 2021’s handle of $117.4m.

What’s more, gamblers in the Garden State also fared better than in 2021, as New Jersey sportsbooks recorded a win of $7.8m, down from last year’s $11.3m. Projected total sports wagering pay out amounted to $135.9m, up 28% from 2021’s $106.1m.

These unaudited revenue figures include New Jersey’s 12 retail sports books and 24 sports wagering mobile applications.

New Jersey’s preliminary results come after Nevada reported a record-breaking $180m in bets on this year’s Super Bowl, and lend further credence to pundits’ big pre-game expectations. Combined, the two state’s total handle comes to more than $320m.

GeoComply also recorded 80 million transactions over the Big Game weekend, representing a 226% increase from last year.

On Sunday 13 February, the Los Angeles Rams won Super Bowl LVI in a hard-fought match against the Cincinnati Bengals that resulted in a score of 23-20.

The teams competed for the Vince Lombardi Trophy in the Rams’ home arena, the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

During 2021, the US saw a surge in legal sports betting, both retail and online, with 30 states, plus Washington DC, currently hosting live sports wagering markets.
