Q4 also proved to be a record for the US, with commercial gaming revenue for the three months amounting to $15.9bn.

The data showed that 34% of all adults in the US visited a casino in the last year, with the use of slot machines growing by 5%.

Furthermore, the total handle for sports betting in 2022 was $93.2bn, while its total revenue sat at $7.5bn. Next year (2023) is also expected to be a record-breaking year for US sports betting, with more states opening up, such as Massachusetts and Ohio.

Meanwhile, iGaming online casino revenue grew by 35%, totalling $5bn for the year.

AGA President and CEO Bill Miller said of the results: “Our industry significantly outpaced expectations in 2022. Simply put, American adults are choosing casino gaming for entertainment in record numbers, benefitting communities and taking market share from the predatory, illegal marketplace.

“Even as we navigate macroeconomic headwinds, I am optimistic about the year ahead. To carry our momentum into 2023, the AGA remains focused on combating the illegal market, doubling down on responsibility, and creating favourable policy and regulatory conditions that enable our industry’s sustained success.”

In recent news, the AGA also released an anti-human trafficking industry toolkit.

It comes after the body published its anti-human trafficking guide in June 2022, with January 2022 representing National Human Trafficking Prevention Month.
