According to La Stampa, an Italian football player, Nicolò Fagioli, who plays for Juventus and the Italian national team, is allegedly under investigation for betting on illegal platforms.

Fagioli is free to gamble as long as it is not on his own sport and as long as the websites he gambles on are legal.

Article 24 of the Code of Sports Justice explains the prohibition "on subjects of the federal system, managers, members and members of companies belonging to the professional sector from placing or accepting bets, directly or indirectly, even from subjects authorised to receive them, which concern results relating to official meetings organised within the FIGC, FIFA and UEFA."

With regards to the investigation, the Turin Prosecutor’s Office is trying to identify the midfielder's possible movements, with exploratory investigations: to understand if Fagioli really bet – and if so, on what?

The investigation was reportedly started at the end of August, with potential federal laws coming into play if the betting was done through illegal platforms or, potentially, on football contests.

If he is found to have broken any sporting regulations with his betting activity, he could be liable to pay a fine of at least €25,000 ($26,507) and Fagioli also risks the potential of being slapped with a three-year ban.

The FIGC Prosecutor's Office is also aware of the proceedings – while the report was sent by Fagioli’s lawyers on 30 August.

The prosecutor Giuseppe Chiné is carefully following the investigations.
