The Kindred Group, an online casino and sports betting operator, has revealed it has seen an increase in revenue from harmful gambling sources in Q3 2023.

This report is the first of its kind under the new CEO, Nils Andén, who was appointed on 17 May 2023 following the sudden exit of Henrik Tjärnström.

At the time, it was believed that one of the reasons for this exit was the pressure to reduce revenue from harmful gambling to under 3%; after all, Kindred had been very public in its goal of eradicating problem gambling and reducing this number down to zero.

The latest report shows that the share of gross winnings revenue from high-risk players has increased to 3.3% from the Q2 2023 amount of 3.1%.

In the report, Kindred stated: “The data for 2023 indicates that while the trend is consistent, more needs to be done.

“While Kindred continues to work actively to achieve a safer gambling experience for all customers, it also recognises that further steps need to be taken to establish a long-term sustainable industry across all markets.“

However, the percentage of customers who ‘improved their behaviour’ has improved since the last quarter.

According to Kindred, 87% of players showed an improvement effect after interventions, the highest amount this year so far and an increase from the 86% reported in Q2.

This past quarter, Kindred has rolled out automated interventions with enhanced features, including a safer gambling toolkit.
