The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) in Jamaica is inviting public feedback on proposed advertising and marketing guidelines for gambling and related products within the country.

To facilitate engagement, the BGLC has launched an electronic survey accessible through www.bglcconsultation.com, welcoming input until 1 December 2023. Additionally, an in-person session is scheduled at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel in Kingston, where stakeholder groups are invited to share their perspectives on the proposed guidelines.

Manager of Corporate Affairs and Communication at BGLC, Wendy Robertson, said: “I would advise persons to go to the consultation summary and then click the form that takes them directly to the e-survey.”

Robertson then added: “We aim to establish guidelines that strike a balance between promoting responsible gambling and preventing the potential adverse effects of gambling-related advertising.”

The proposed guidelines aim to align with the BGLC's mandate to uphold consumer protection while attempting to ensure a fair and regulated gambling environment within the country.

This consultation follows significant legislative efforts in Jamaica's gambling sector, including discussions on legalising and regulating online gambling as disclosed during the Caribbean Gaming Show and Summit in 2017. The Government's pursuit of a regulated online gaming environment aimed to capitalise on technological advancements while implementing stringent measures to prevent illicit activities and ensure regulatory compliance.

Moreover, developments were made to the country’s casino gaming sector with discussions on the Casino Gaming Act amendments in 2021 that aimed to stimulate economic growth through large-scale investments.
