The state of Pennsylvania has revealed its gaming revenue for November 2023.

Much like states including Maryland and New York, the Keystone State has shown an overall decrease in revenue while sports wagering handle has been reported at some of its highest recorded in November 2023.

Sports wagering handle for November totalled $934.1m, an 18.4% increase from the $789.2m generated this time last year.

Total revenue across the state's operators was $444.5m, a decrease of 1.7% from this time last year. Of these operators, the one with the largest overall revenue year-on-year decrease was Hollywood Casino Morgantown with total revenue down 25%, while the biggest increase in revenue was generated by The Casino at Nemacolin, with year-on-year revenue up 32%.

The state's top revenue generator, Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, earned $66.6m in November 2023 for a year-on-year decrease of 6.5%. Valley Forge Casino Resort faced similar results, down 6.3%.

Of the state's top five operators by total revenue generated, only Wind Creek Bethlehem saw an increase in revenue. Generating $45.9m, it was up year-on-year by 8.3%.

When breaking down total revenue by the types of gaming available, the biggest growth was seen in iGaming slot revenue, which generated $109.3m for growth of 26.2%.

The biggest decrease was seen in sports wagering revenue, which was down 75.7% for a total of $12.9m. This was in part due to, according to The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB): “The offering of a significant amount of non-taxable promotional play by the newly-launched ESPN Bet operated by the Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course sports wagering certificate and a low hold percentage that benefited bettors.”

Of the fantasy operators in the state, DraftKings was both the highest revenue generator and the highest year-on-year revenue changer. The operator generated $1.8m in November, an increase of 18.2%. Statewide, fantasy operator revenue was up 2%.
