Shaquille O’Neal appointed as PointsBet Australian brand ambassador

PointsBet has appointed National Basketball Association (NBA) legend Shaquille O’Neal as its Australian brand ambassador.

The three-time MVP will headline the sports betting operator’s new 2021 Australian brand campaign, which will be launched across digital, mobile, social media and television.

“Shaq is an iconic figure in the worlds of sports and entertainment and was our clear number one pick to represent the PointsBet brand in Australia,” said PointsBet chief marketing officer and co-founder Andrew Fahey.

“US sports, particularly professional basketball, continue to be the fastest-growing betting sport in Australia, and we are very excited to align with such a transcendent athlete.”

The announcement comes after PointsBet last week launched its sportsbook in Michigan, having been authorised by the Michigan Gaming Control Board to commence online sport betting operations throughout the state.

That launch followed previous launches in New Jersey, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, and Colorado. Former NBA champion Rip Hamilton was also recently announced as a brand ambassador, and will serve as the face of PointsBet’s Michigan-based sports betting products, while the recently recruited O’Neal will represent its Australian operations.

O’Neal commented: “The rise of responsible sports betting is really exciting, and I am so excited to join forces with PointsBet, the best-in-class partner in Australia when it comes to online sportsbooks.”
