Ty Stewart, WSOP VP, commented: “We could not be happier with the turnout to this year’s main event, from the big international crowd to the return of some of the greatest players of all time. Following a year of such uncertainty, it is amazing to have the poker community together again. The energy and excitement in the room are palpable as legends and amateurs from around the world gather together to try their chance at a world championship title, once again.”

This edition’s highlights include Chris Moneymaker’s attendance, Josh Arieh winning the fourth bracelet in Event #66, former NBA star Tony Parker taking part in the WSOP main event, and the poker community buying an event ticket for a man facing terminal cancer.

WSOP has awarded over $3.29bn in prize money as well as the gold bracelet that is globally recognised as the sport’s top prize. Featuring a series of tournaments in every major poker variation, WSOP is poker’s longest-running tournament in the world, dating back to 1970. Its 2019 edition attracted 187,298 entrants from 118 different countries.
