AptPay launches first digital payments gaming client in Canada

EML Payments is to power AptPay’s first gaming and gambling General Purpose Reloadable (GPR) program in Canada, for new client Woodbine Entertainment.

Woodbine, Canada’s largest horseracing operator, has partnered with AptPay’s integrated platform, and will receive EML’s experience with cashless in-person gambling and in-app gaming products. EML congratulated AptPay for launching its first GPR, similar to a debit card, in Canada.

Ailie Kofoid, CEO Americas at EML, noted: “EML is delighted to support AptPay's gaming and gambling ambitions in Canada, and future growth plans across the North American market.”

The hybrid payment solution is seen as an ideal bridge for the instant disbursement of winnings. Digital payments can be processed directly to and from the customer’s account, and helps to mitigate unwanted aspects such as fraud. Physical cards are tap-ready for contactless payments throughout Canada, and help to increase hygiene levels and social distancing at a time when Covid-19 is still in heavy circulation.

Shams Syed, CEO at AptPay, commented: “Through this incredible partnership for AptPay with Woodbine's HPIbet, consumers can finally receive their winnings in real-time from wagering. They can push money directly to accepting bank accounts or have a reloadable prepaid card issued instantly in the new year. This is the first program in Canada allowing winnings to be instantly disbursed to patrons.”

UK-based AptPay provides physical and online payment solutions, facilitating smoother contactless transactions for its clients. It works closely with businesses from all sectors, although prioritises retail, food and hospitality, health and medical, and travel and leisure.

It is focused on launching several new programs in Canada and the US in 2022.
