Canadian football franchise, Ottawa Redblacks, has agreed to be sponsored by the sports betting operator, with PointsBet Canada's branding to feature on the team’s kit and around TD Place, its home stadium.
The stadium’s VIP area will also be rebranded as the PointsBet Sideline Club, with the operator becoming the franchise’s new presentation sponsor.
The Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG), owner of the Redblacks, has fully signed off on the deal.
Mark Goudie, President and CEO, OSEG, commented: “We proudly wave the Canadian and CFL flag in the nation's capital. It was important to us this partnership was with a Canadian operator, who not only knows the city of Ottawa, but also loves the CFL and appreciates our Redblacks fans and the passion they have for our team and our league.
“We proudly welcome PointsBet Canada to RNation and look forward to an exciting, innovative relationship and an exceptional game experience in the PointsBet Sideline Club.”
Canadian football shares many similarities with that of its American cousin, though varies in several respects.
While the two codes of North American football, or gridiron as it’s often known, appear identical, they have different numbers of players (11 for American and 12 for Canadian), Canadian football pitches are larger and the rules of play vary.
Nic Sulsky, CCO, PointsBet Canada, said: “PointsBet Canada is committed to building an identity that acknowledges the little intricacies that make us all proud to be Canadian. Nothing says Canadian like three downs, a 55-yard line and the rouge.
“We are excited to add a little bit more red and black to RNation for years to come.”
PointsBet Canada is joined by a raft of fellow gambling operators, such as Rivalry Corporation and 888 Holdings, in gaining approval to commence wagering activities when Ontario launches online gambling on 4 April.
