Today, Gambling Insider received comments from Singapore casino resort, Marina Bay Sands, announcing a data security incident that took place on October 19th and 20th, 2023.

The breach involved unauthorised access by a third party to personal data of some Sands LifeStyle rewards programme members, affecting around 665,000 non-casino rewards members. The incident was detected on October 20th 2023.

In a statement addressing the incident, Marina Bay Sands has assured its customers that, based on their investigation findings, personal data of Sands LifeStyle rewards programme members was not affected.

The casino resort's teams are responding to the breach by working to resolve the issue and strengthen data protection systems.

While there is no evidence to date suggesting that the unauthorised party has misused the accessed data, the incident serves as a reminder for customers to remain vigilant against potential phishing attempts and regularly update their login credentials as a best practice.

The membership data from the Sands Rewards Club, the casino rewards programme, was not impacted by this security incident. Marina Bay Sands reported the incident to the authorities in Singapore and other relevant jurisdictions, cooperating with their inquiries into the breach.

The data security incident at Marina Bay Sands follows a recent data breach affecting Caesars Rewards, a loyalty program run by Caesars Entertainment. Law firm Levi & Korsinsky is actively seeking individuals affected by the breach to join a potential lawsuit, investigating whether those affected are entitled to compensation.

This breach exposed personal information of over 65 million Caesars Rewards members, emphasising the growing importance of data security in the gaming and entertainment industry.

Marina Bay Sands recently completed over 850 ultra-luxury hotel rooms as part of its $1bn redevelopment initiative. The extensive renovation includes a modernised Executive Club lounge, fine dining facilities and health and wellness services.
