FanDuel has donated $1m to UNCF, whose mission is to support under-represented students in their journey to becoming highly qualified college graduates. FanDuel’s donation to UNCF will support 10 historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in Ohio.

This donation is not the first of its kind, with FanDuel previously donating $1m to UNCF twice in the past three years. Past donations helped the organisation support students in Virginia and Maryland.

FanDuel’s most recent donation coincides with the one-year anniversary of the launch of mobile sports betting in Ohio.

The donation helps UNCF provide direct aid to students across technology, housing, food security and tuition.

Alongside the donation, FanDuel will also work with UNCF to recruit students from colleges and universities to join its internship program at one of the company's US offices.

President of FanDuel Christian Genetski commented: "We're always looking for ways to make a positive impact in the communities in which we operate our sportsbook.

“As we reflect on our first year of operation in Ohio, we're proud to continue our partnership with UNCF to support the HBCU community in the state and look forward to supporting hard-working students at institutions across Ohio."

EVP and Chief Fundraising Officer at UNCF, Maurice E. Jenkins Jr., shared his thoughts: "We truly appreciate the ongoing support from FanDuel, as financial and academic support like this help make a real difference for HBCUs and their students. We look forward to continuing our partnership; students benefit so much from internship opportunities."

The 10 institutions in Ohio impacted by the donation include Case Western University, Central State University, Chamberlain University, Franklin University, Herzing University-Akron, Ohio State University-Newark Campus, Union Institute & University, Ursuline College, Wilberforce University and University of Cincinnati-Blue Ash College.

FanDuel’s previous donation, in December 2022, assisted four historically black colleges in Maryland.
