The survey was anonymous and saw participants assuming the role of an online gambling operator, selecting responses for online bettors that showed signs of problem gambling.

The most endorsed recommendations from participants were to share information about support and resources, state-wide self-exclusion and pre-commitment limit-setting tools.

PointsBet USA CEO Johnny Aitken commented on the findings: “We are proud to have partnered with the NCPG and MACGH to better understand how to find solutions for those impacted by problem gambling. A meaningful approach to prevention and intervention of gambling-related harms requires input from all stakeholders."

Meanwhile, Keith Whyte, Executive Director of the National Council on Problem Gambling, added: “Through the results of this survey, we hope to spark dialogue amongst operators as well as regulators, treatment providers, researchers and problem gambling advocates to help inform operator engagement strategies around responsible gambling.”

Finally, Marlene Warner, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health, said: “We are proud to have partnered with PointsBet and the NCPG in this effort to make meaningful progress in researching responsible gambling.

"Only through proper collaboration are we able to effect meaningful change, which I hope will also come to benefit and protect the future of people who choose to gamble in the state of Massachusetts.”

Of the 110 respondents at the National Conference of Gambling Addiction & Responsible Gambling, 17% identified as recovering addicts and 30% were treatment providers.
