Carter has over 40 years of experience working in the public and private sectors. Previously, he was deputy chair of SkyCity Entertainment Group, overseeing the expansion development at SkyCity Adelaide, and, currently, he is chair of the Australian Submarine Corporation and Aventus Capital, and holds directorships with the Bank of Queensland and AIG Australia.
“Bruce brings to the Crown Board the ideal blend of commercial, governance and gaming sector expertise and is respected across Australia for his contribution to corporate and government roles,” said Crown’s executive chairman Helen Coonan. She added the new appointment “is an endorsement of our strategy, ambition and commitment to reform. I am determined to maintain the pace of change right across the business and remain committed to further board renewal.”
Carter stated he was interested in joining the Crown board when the company is implementing an important organization-wide transformation. He expressed enthusiasm for the company’s future, relying on Crown’s “ambitious timetable to complete tough and wide-ranging reforms as the board moves to embed the highest standards of governance”, and hopes to contribute to important changes within the company.
In the same announcement, the company confirmed that professor John Horvath will retire as director of Crown effective from 14 April, 2021. Coonan said, “I would like to acknowledge professor Horvath’s service to Crown and contribution to the board over a number of years, including serving as the inaugural chairman of the Responsible Gaming Committee.”
She added that the announcements are the latest in an ongoing process of board renewal and noted: “the recent confirmation that Nigel Morrison has received all regulatory approvals to join the Crown Board”.
