DGA announces transition period for updated certification programme

The countdown to Denmark’s new certification programme for online and land-based betting, as well as online casinos, has begun.

ChangePeriod

The Danish Gambling Authority (DGA) has sent its updated certification programme to the EU Commission for notification, though it will not take effect until 1 January 2023.

During the transition period, operators may choose to follow its current or revised programme. When the “stand still process” comes to an end on 26 April, the DGA will upload the updated documents to its website.

From then on, and until the regulator’s certification programme v2.0 comes into force next year, tests and inspections can be carried out in accordance with either version. However, they must be conducted by organisations accredited with the respective programme.

Among v2.0’s changes are some basic amendments, such as linguistic adjustments, as well as more significant alterations.

There are also several additions, including equipment testing requirements for live casinos. This section covers, for example, requirements for roulette, card shufflers and card shoes.

And some things have been removed as well. From 26 April, licensees will no longer be required to send quarterly reports on change management to the DGA.

Moreover, the option to postpone certification by up to two months will remain valid during the transition period, though postponement across the 2022/23 new year will not be permitted.

“The certification program for online betting, land-based betting and online casino is updated to ensure timeliness and a continued high standard of testing and inspection of gambling systems,” stated the DGA in its notification to the EU Commission.
