The casino, owned by MGM Resorts International, has been forced to suspend operations until further notice, while all staff and guests have been ordered to isolate inside until 1 November.

The employee in question, meanwhile, is a 43-year-old female croupier.

According to Macau’s Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, she had “common activity track” with a positive case in the Chinese city of Zhuhai.

Upon discovering this, the Centre arranged sampling and medical observation for the woman, who then tested positive on 30 October. She had previously tested negative on 24 and 26 October.

Her case was classified as “imported” following epidemiological investigation. Subsequently, Macau has ordered every citizen to undergo daily rapid antigen testing from 30 October to 1 November.

Furthermore, anyone who visited the casino for more than 30 minutes between 27 and 29 October is subject to code “yellow” testing requirements.

Individuals to whom this applies must perform a rapid antigen test once per day and report their result via Macau’s Health Code app.

If they record a positive result, residents should call an ambulance, “regardless of whether or not they have a fever, respiratory symptoms or other discomfort.”

They must also perform a nucleic acid test each day for seven days. If each test returns a negative result, they may return to normal.

This comes as Macau continues to implement China’s zero-Covid policy, which has in the past proved damaging to casinos.
