International Game Technology (IGT) has extended its contract with The National Lottery.

This decision was finalised ahead of Allwyn’s takeover, which is expected to start on 1 February 2024, when the Fourth National Lottery Licence will go live.

It will mark the first time that the UK National Lottery has been passed from one operator to another.

Allwyn was announced as the Preferred Applicant in March 2022, which saw Camelot miss out on the contract for the first time since The National Lottery first began.

As part of the process of handing the wheel over to Allwyn, the Gambling Commission has published the full details of the Fourth Licence itself, as well as all of the supporting documentation.

Amid the changes, IGT has extended its contract with The National Lottery to supply the core lottery system.

Jay Gendron, IGT COO Global Lottery, said: "We are pleased to continue to support the operation of The National Lottery, working alongside a range of other suppliers and Allwyn.”

As a lottery system provider, IGT can deal with all devices, venues and touchpoints.

This includes retail systems, instant tickets and iLottery turnkeys products, as well as its integrated omnichannel lottery solution, Omnia.

However, not everything has been smooth sailing between IGT and Allwyn so far.

The two have been embroiled in legal issues since 2022, after Allwyn was announced as the Preferred Applicant.

Camelot responded by submitting a legal response which made its way to the High Courts and IGT made claims against the Gambling Commission for lost damages.

Since then, Allwyn acquired Camelot and IGT discontinued its appeal.
