Paddy Power to donate €129,000 to Irish football clubs

Paddy Power will donate around €129,000 ($152,750) to Irish football clubs through its Save Our Game campaign.

The Irish bookmaker pledged to contribute €10,000 for every goal England scored in the recent Euro 2020 tournament, with a minimum donation of €100,000 guaranteed.

England finished the tournament with 11 goals, with Paddy Power deciding to pay the full amount in pounds sterling, with the total converting to €128,650.

“Italy might be champions of the Euro 2020 tournament, but Ireland are real winners thanks to Paddy Power’s Save Our Game campaign,” a statement from Flutter Entertainment read on LinkedIn.

“Gareth Southgate and his squad managed to net 11 goals throughout the tournament, with Luke Shaw’s lightning bolt goal in the final against Italy adding a last injection of cash for Irish grassroots football clubs.

“So, even in defeat, Gareth Southgate and his squad managed to do one more good deed for football. A great and well executed idea by our talented PP colleagues.”

Paddy Power’s campaign was undoubtedly helped by England’s successful run in the competition, with the country narrowly missing out on a first European Championship trophy, with Italy defeating the Three Lions on penalties at Wembley earlier this month.
