Willem van Oort: Regulated Dutch online gaming market presents new opportunities

The regulated Dutch online gambling market is set open on 1 October 2021, which marks the emergence of certain opportunities to local suppliers and business start-ups. This has prompted suppliers and local initiatives to plan to meet with prospective buyers in April at the Gaming in Holland Expo.

Willem van Oort, founder of the business community and B2B information portal Gaming in Holland, said: “Looking at other newly regulated iGaming markets across Europe, we see, each time, that market regulation created a context, and environment in which smart and innovative entrepreneurs were stimulated to develop products and services that later would have a major impact on the entire global gaming industry.”

The Gaming in Holland Expo is scheduled for April 2022 and takes place alongside the yearly Gaming in Holland Conference. This event will house up to 50 exhibitors, a mix of emerging and established suppliers that will present themselves and their products to the dutch gambling industry.

The event’s aim is to find suppliers and other parties willing to be part of the regulated market (tech and media companies, payment providers, affiliates, content and platform providers) and is supported by local trade associations and operators.

Since one of the main focus points of the market represents consumer protection, the Dutch regulations are expected to set a new European standard for the uniform protection of online and land-based players alike.

Van Oort concluded: “Given the large focus on social responsibility in our country, it would not surprise me if new initiatives were to be launched in the areas of addiction prevention and player protection, helping to protect consumers.”
