Following the announcement, Futuur now has over 1,000 event markets live at any one time, providing forecasters with the opportunity to bet on the outcome of industries such as: politics, sports, science and business. With similarities to a stock market, pricing is determined by market activity, fluctuating as buyers and sellers transact in event outcomes.
Founder Tom Bennett commented: “We’re very happy with the results Futuur forecasters have generated trading our play-money markets, and we’re incredibly excited about the prospects for our real-money markets. We expect that an additional financial incentive will lead to even better accuracy, and move us closer to our goal of helping to improve decision-making by providing more accurate forecasts.”
Futuur has operated since 2017 with play-money markets, but believes that the introduction of real-money events will allow the platform to generate even more accurate predictions. The cryptocurrencies available at first will include: Bitcoin, Ether, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Tron, Bitcoin Cash and the USDC stablecoin.
To offer legal real-money wagering, Futuur has obtained a gaming licence from the Ministry of Justice in Curacao. While this permits the service to provide real-money gambling across much of the world, jurisdictions such as the US, Australia, Colombia and the Netherlands are excluded.
The company has generated crowd-driven predictions for 44,000 events over the past four years, with over 25,000 forecasters casting bets.
