Wynn Las Vegas set to offer mobile sports betting

Las Vegas is reportedly planning to launch a mobile sports-betting app to Nevada players in February.

John Avello, Wynn Las Vegas director of race and sports, told Legal Sports Report (LSR) that the app could be live in the second half of the month and that it has been part of the operator’s plans for around two years.

This would mean that the app would not quite be live in time for this year’s Super Bowl on February 7, but Wynn Las Vegas plans to start accepting wagers for the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s March Madness basketball tournament.

Avello said: “We’ll offer everything that we offer in the book, including horse-racing futures. It’s pretty much the sportsbook in your pocket.”

According to LSR, Avello also said that bets on this year’s Kentucky Derby in May could be accepted.

While internet wagering legislation in the state only allows for online poker, players are able to make sports-betting wagers via mobile if they deposit money and collect winnings at the app operator’s land-based venue in Nevada.

The first mobile sports-betting app in the state, Leroy’s App, launched in 2010, and William Hill as well as Boyd Gaming, which part-owns Borgata, are among the other operators of sports-betting apps in the state.

Players do not need to be Nevada residents to play on a state sports-betting app, but must be located in the state at the time of playing, as interstate sports betting is illegal in the US.
