Spelinspektionen, the Nordic country’s gambling regulator, has sent out a letter to all municipalities advising them to review their websites, and in particular, any information concerning lotteries.

It recently “mapped” the available information on municipality websites regarding lotteries. This so-called “mapping” found that many municipalities have “deficiencies in their information.”

“Spelinspektionen has mapped the information about lotteries on the municipalities’ websites, and the mapping shows that many municipalities have deficiencies in their information,” it stated.

Consequently, the regulator has now instructed Sweden’s 290 municipalities to each conduct a review in a bid to guarantee compliance.

In Spelinspektionen’s own words, a letter was “sent out to all municipalities that they should review the information so that it complies with current legislation.”

Under Sweden’s current gambling framework, municipalities must respect certain rules to offer a lottery. Among other requirements, certain information must be made “readily available” to players.

For example, this includes information about the time and manner of profits’ distribution, as well as the lottery’s price.

However, when this information is absent, or otherwise not “readily available,” Spelinspektionen may intervene – as is now the case.

Meanwhile, in a bid to further ensure compliance, Spelinspektionen also plans to produce and publish digital information this autumn aimed at municipal lottery administrators and inspectors.

In other Swedish news, Casino Cosmopol’s CEO Per Jaldung has announced that he will resign after two decades with the company. He is expected to step down later this year.
