ark’s regulated gaming market experienced year-on-year growth of 30% in sports betting and online casino products for Q1, with Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) of DKK975m compared to DKK750m for the same period last year.

The increase has been driven by surging online sports betting and casino revenue, with online operations representing 78% of the total GGR, according to figures published by Danish gaming regulator Spillemyndigheden.

Sports betting GGR rose year-on-year by 33%, to DKK585m, with online wagers accounting for 64% of that total.

The GGR for online casinos also grew, with a leap of more than 25% reported compared to Q1 2015, to DKK390m.

The GGR for online poker has remained relatively stable at around DKK40m for the last eight quarters, with online casino growth driven by other casino games.

As of April 2016, there are 27 licensed operators in the country, holding 15 licences for betting and 25 licences for online casinos.

Land based casinos also experienced an expansion in GGR for Q1, from DKK75m to DKK95m.
