The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC).

The two regulators first signed the MoU in 2013, which served as a stepping stone to facilitate a cooperative relationship between the two.

By continuing the agreement, both the MGA and the AGCC recognise the need for cross-border cooperation between regulatory bodies amid the international nature of online gambling.

Carl Brincat, MGA CEO, said: “The renewal of the MoU with the AGCC continues to reaffirm our shared commitment towards supervising a safe and responsible gaming ecosystem across the board.”

As regulators of their own respective jurisdictions, the MGA and the AGCC are responsible for issuing licences, supervising the operations of brands and responding to legal infractions.

Andrew Gellatly, AGCC Executive Director, said: “With this MOU, we look forward to continuing and strengthening our valued collaboration with the MGA, to the benefit of both players and stakeholders.”

While a MoU is not a legally binding document, it is a statement of serious intent between two equal parties which outlines a common understanding and framework for them.

The AGCC was founded in May 2000 and currently issues over 70 licences and works with 20+ game providers.

The regulator works primarily with online gambling by issuing eGambling Licences, but also deals with hosting providers and core service provider associates.

Some of the companies who hold an AGCC licence include Sky Bet and Sky Casino, through Bonne Terre; Greentube, NetEnt, Playtech and Kitty Bingo.

Just before Christmas, the MGA released its Interim Performance Report for 2023.
