Pavilion Payments, an omnichannel payments provider serving the gaming industry, has pledged its support to the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG).

The financial backing from Pavilion Payments will be directed towards a research initiative led by Dr. Michael J.A. Wohl, a researcher and professor at Carleton University in Ottawa. The objective of the initiative is to develop tools that foster responsible gambling practices.

Christopher Justice, Pavilion Payments CEO, stated: “At Pavilion Payments, we are committed to promoting responsible and ethical practices within the gaming industry.

“Our investment in the ICRG reflects our dedication to advancing research that will contribute to the development of effective tools for responsible gambling.

“We believe in the potential of Dr. Wohl's research to reshape the gaming landscape by positively contributing to a future of responsible gaming.”

The funded research will expand upon previous findings that suggest a preemptive limit option is more effective in reducing problem gaming than suggestion-based alternatives that occur part-way through gaming sessions.

Arthur Paikowsky, ICRG President, commented: “Together, we aim to contribute to the development of responsible gambling initiatives that prioritise the well-being of players.

“This generous grant will empower us to conduct groundbreaking research, providing industry leaders with the evidence needed to make informed decisions about the strengths and weaknesses of play management systems.”

The initiative encompasses two prospective studies and two experiments that aim to evaluate attitudes towards preemptive limit-setting tools, identify player characteristics and assess the real and perceived influence on behaviour.

The research will also delve into the impact of incentivising the use of preemptive limit-setting tools, and leveraging access through loyalty programs and player-account data provided by operators.
