Spillemyndigheden, the Swedish Gambling Authority, has released its figures for February 2024.

Denmark's gross gaming revenue (GGR) for February was DKK 587m ($83.7m), an 18% increase from the year before and a 7% increase from the month prior.

Online casinos accounted for 47% of the GGR at DKK 278m, reflecting a 19% annual increase.

Of this online casino GGR, 77% was from slot games, 7% from both roulette and blackjack respectively and 3% from bingo.

Sports betting increased by 33% to DKK 178m, with 70% of wagers being placed on mobile devices, 14% on PC and 16% at land-based retail outlets.

While Saturday was the most popular day for sports betting enthusiasts, Thursday was the day for online casino players, accounting for almost double the value of other days.

The GGR from land-based casinos increased by 7% to DKK 32m, for an average daily GGR of DKK 1.1m.

This follows a recent report from Spillemyndigheden which explained that the total gambling spend in 2023 was down for a second consecutive year - is this finally turning around?

A total of 62 StopSpillet (StopGambling) conversations were had through the organisation in February alone.

Players made up 42% of these and 55% were with relatives; the remainder were with consultants.

Although 81% of players facing gambling-related harm had no debt, 6% had some debt and 13% reported having both debt and payday loans.

This financial risk highlights the importance of having accessible responsible gaming charities and organisations.

Interestingly, 71% of the relatives who reached out to StopSpillet were women and 39% were partners.

For more statistics, the Spillemyndigheden also released its Gambling Market in Numbers 2023 report, which looks into the full year in depth.
