Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and coalition partner Natsuo Yamaguchi confirmed this week that they are committed to passing the Integrated Resorts (IR) Implementation Bill during the extended session of parliament.

Tokyo

The IR Implementation Bill is likely to be discussed at a plenary session of the upper house on Friday, according to GGRAsia’s Japan correspondent. The bill would legalise casinos.

A second bill, the Basic Bill on Gambling Addiction Countermeasures, has been discussed by a committee of the Japanese parliament’s upper chamber, the House of Councillors, according to GGRAsia.

Japan’s governing coalition government has extended the parliamentary session until 22 July.

The governing parties are thought likely to present a resolution on the IR Implementation Bill on 19 July.
