MGM Resorts executive: "Very high" conversation rate will encourage in-stadium sports betting

MGM Resorts International's President of Interactive Gaming, Scott Butera, expects US sports venues to provide fans with in-stadium sports betting in the future.

Butera, who took up his current role in June, has been in conversation with leagues and teams to secure MGM Resorts as their official gambling partner, the three-year agreement between the NBA and MGM Resorts being a prime example.

Butera is quoted as saying by Bloomberg: “The conversion rate from sports fan to sports bettor is very high. That’s your most robust customer."

Earlier this week, MGM Resorts and GVC signed a deal with the United Auburn Indian Community to offer sports betting in California.

Even though California is yet to legalise sports betting, Butera predicts more deals with sovereign tribes within the state and across the country.

He said: "There’s a lot of interest in sports betting. Figuring out how it unfolds is the question. I’m in it every day, and it’s going to be an evolution.”
