According to figures released by the Rhode Island Lottery, Twin River Casino took $11.1m worth of wagers in December, while Tiverton Casino took $2m.

From this handle, Twin River generated $835,000 in revenue, while Tiverton saw revenue of $123,000, taking the state's total tally to $958,000.

Rhode Island’s figures are comparable to that of Delaware, where only three venues accept bets and where there is also a population of roughly one million people.

During its first full month of sports betting operations, Delaware generated $8.2m in handle and revenue of approximately $500,000.

By comparison, the state of New Jersey, with far more locations, a population of nine million and both online and mobile sportsbooks, generated $3.8m in sports wagering revenue in its first full month.
