Turkish Football Federation (TFF) chairman Yildirim Demirören has resigned following the transfer of Turkey’s sole legal sports betting operator, Iddaa, to his company.

Demirören Holding recently teamed up with supplier Scientific Games to form subsidiary Sans Girisim.

This joint venture then made the best offer in a tender to purchase Iddaa, the terms of which dictate it will receive a 0.2% share of all sports wagering revenue.

The other main bidder was the Inteltek joint venture between Intralot and Turkish mobile phone operator Turkcell, which offered to take 0.5% commission and has run Iddaa since 2008.

Following completion of the deal, Demirören has foregone his position as TFF President to avoid any conflict of interest.

The TFF website confirmed Demirören’s resignation, announcing Vice President Hüsnü Güreli has been named Interim President until June in his stead.

In a statement on the website, Demirören said: "I have made this decision regarding the job I have carried out with pride and honour until today, to not leave any space for dispute and to cast a shadow over my tenure before the Turkish and world public. I present this to the public with my deepest respect and love."
