The likes of FanDuel, PointsBet, Caesars, DraftKings, BetMGM and Barstool are all active on day one in the Free State; Catena Media has also launched affiliate sites in the state.
Each operator is offering potential customers aggressive deals to sign up, with FanDuel giving $200 in free bets so long as customers deposit $10 and bet $5; Caesars giving $1,500 in betting credit if the customer makes a bet of over $100; and, Barstool awarding new players $1,000 in bonus cash if their first bet loses.
Ryan Harper, Catena Media’s of VP North American Revenue, said: "As with the Kansas launch in September, we expect a strong result from the Maryland go-live. The timing is excellent, given that we are in week 12 of the NFL season and have the added bonus of the World Cup kicking off this week."
Meanwhile, Eric Hession, President of Caesars Digital, added: "The launch of the Caesars Sportsbook app in Maryland strengthens our offering for customers in the state.
"With a historically jam-packed sports calendar, customers can now enjoy access to the same unmatched rewards they've experienced when betting at Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, in the palm of their hands."
Maryland becomes the latest state in the US to open up to sports betting, following several others in 2022 – just in time for bettors in Maryland to bet on the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar – while states such as Massachusetts and Ohio are due to launch early in 2023.
