Maryland gambling revenue up 37% in August

financial performance of the casinos in Maryland State this summer has been nothing short of impressive, bolstered by the success of one venue in particular. According to data released this week by the Lottery and Gaming Commission, the state’s six casinos generated $137m in August in revenue, up 37.1% from its $100m figure reported in the same month last year.

The MGM National Harbor, which operates 3,117 slot machines and 168 table games, was the top venue during the summer. Individually, it generated over $52m in revenue in August, recording up to $281.82 for slot machines, $5,934.89 for banked table games and $1,520.81 for non-banked table games in gross gaming revenue (GGR) per day.

The second biggest casino, Maryland Live Casino, totalled over $44m in August. Breaking the figures down, the venue’s GGR per unit per day was: $241.28 for slot machines, $3,330.98 for banked table games and $849.39 for non-banked table games. These results indicate a nearly 20% dive in revenue, decreasing in more than $11m, compared to the same period last year.

Horseshoe Casino, located in the Free State’s largest city Baltimore, posted $21m revenue from both slot machines and table games. Overall, this venue, which currently operates over 2,000 slot machines and 178 tables games, decreased its total gaming revenue by more than $5m. Horseshoe Casino’s revenue has dropped by 21%, compared to August 2016.

The top fourth casino regarding its financial results was Hollywood Casino Perryville. This venue generated over $6m in revenue during August. GGR per unit per day was: $212.91 for slot machines, $1,794.58 for banked table games and $410.71 for non-banked table games. Hollywood Casino’s August 2017 revenue increased by $319,196, or 5.4%, from August 2016.

The two smallest venues in the Old Line State, Casino at Ocean Downs and Rocky Gap Casino Resort totalled $6m and $4.8m in revenue, respectively. Casino at Ocean Downs saw its August revenue increase by nearly 12%, which is fairly impressive as this venue only operates 800 slots machines and it doesn’t have any table games.

Finally, Rocky Gap Casino Resort’s August 2017 revenue increased by over $275,000, or 6% year-on-year basis. This facility does not have non-banked table games; however, GGR per unit per day was: $191.83 for slot machines and $1,648.53 for banked table games.
