Stars Group granted Swedish license

The Swedish gambling regulator has approved The Stars Group to operate in the country from the New Year.

The Canadian company is now the 19th to be granted approval in Sweden by Lotteriinspektionen,

This follows the first batch of operators given access to the Swedish market; Svenksa Spel, Kindred Group and Betsson were among those to receive license approval in November.

Global Gaming and Videoslots were also seen as fit to launch in the market, and were announced as licensees last week.

The authoritative body reported 95 applications, of which more than 70 concerned online gambling, but said this may not provide the full picture as some applications were from companies with several brands.

With more decisions expected, Lotteriinspektionen said it will be giving some operators licenses that run shorter than the maximum five-year period, as certain cases warrant closer monitoring due to past infringements.
